First Aid At Work (FAW)

An intensive course providing all the knowledge and practical skills necessary to become the designated workplace "First Aider".
Duration: 3 days including examination Normal hours 9am - 4.45pm each day

Aims and Objectives: On completion of the course the candidate will be able to deal with:

  • Action at an emergency
  • Administer Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (C.P.R.)
  • Burns and scalds
  • Anaphylactic shock
  • Wounds and bleeding
  • Use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
  • Choking casualties
  • HSE Legislation and Record Keeping. Preventing cross infection requirements
  • Broken Bones, Muscles and joints including spinal injuries
  • Unconscious casualties
  • Poisoning
  • Eye injuries
  • Treatment of Shock
  • Recognise Major illness including Heart Attack, Stroke, Diabetes, epilepsy, asthma etc.
  • Head injuries
  • Preventing cross infection

Entry Requirements:

None specific, however candidates require to be physically fit with good lung function and a willingness to become involved with emergencies.

Qualification - Candidates will be assessed during and at the end of the course and successful completion will result in the award of an approved "First Aid at Work" Certificate which is valid for three years.
Annual half day refresher training will be provided FREE to MFTG certificate holders
