VEHICLE SERVICE MECHANIC (Light, Heavy, Agricultural)
WHAT IS THE JOB?

The work of the Vehicle
Service Mechanic includes:

Scheduled Servicing
   
Identifying and locating basic faults
   
Removal and replacement of components


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
 
Vehicle Mechanics need to:
Be good with their hands and able to solve practical
  problems
   
Have 4 years secondary education with ideally passes
  in science or technical based subjects and an
  enthusiasm for a trade
   
Have an aptitude for mechanical principles and like
working as part of a team

TRAINING AND EDUCATION
Serve a recognised apprenticeship including planned work experience coupled with training at a local Training Centre or College and regular assessment of performance in the work place.

QUALIFICATIONS
Achievement of work based competence assessments leads to a Scottish/National Vocational Qualification (S/NVQ) awarded at : LEVEL 2 (Unit Replacement)

VEHICLE TECHNICIAN (Light, Heavy, Agricultural)
WHAT IS THE JOB?

The work of the Vehicle Technician includes:

Scheduled Servicing and tuning
   
Using specialised equipment to diagnose and locate
  faults
   
Overhauling and reconditioning components
   
Testing and measuring vehicle performance

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Vehicle Technicians need to:
Be good with their hands, think logically and be able
  to solve practical problems
   
Have 4/5 years secondary education with ideally
  passes in science, particularly physics or technical
  based subjects
   
Be able to understand technical data and apply the
  information in practice.
   
Have an aptitude for mechanical principles and like
working as part of a team.

TRAINING AND EDUCATION
Serve a recognised apprenticeship including planned work experience coupled with training courses at a local Training Centre, College or with the vehicle manufacturer and regular assessment of performance in the workplace.

QUALIFICATIONS
Achievement of work based competence assessments leads to a Scottish/National Vocational Qualification (S/NVQ) awarded at: LEVEL 3 (Maintenance and Repair).
